Most subscription brands launch first and figure out retention later. Intervel wanted recurring revenue from day one. Here’s how we designed and built a gamified Shopify storefront that converted at 4.11% at launch, with 43% of customers choosing to subscribe.
The brief
Intervel makes functional pouches — Performance, Bliss and Sidekick — built for how you feel, focus, and reset. The brand doesn’t do half-measures, and it needed a storefront that didn’t either.
The goal was specific: a launch-ready Shopify experience that turned a first purchase into a subscription. Intervel wanted a gamified buying flow where shoppers build their own mix of flavors, watch their savings grow as they add more, and unlock bigger discounts in real time — all without adding friction on the way to checkout.
Make the buy box the experience
Instead of a standard add-to-cart button, we designed the buy box as the centerpiece of every product page. Shoppers mix and match flavors into a custom bundle, and pricing updates live as they go. Tiered discounts reward bigger bundles, and a clear choice between subscribe-and-save and a one-time purchase makes the subscription the obvious value.
Explain the product before asking for the sale
Functional products raise questions: what does it do, what’s in it, and is it backed by anything? We answered those before shoppers had to ask. A visual mega menu explains each formula’s benefit before anyone clicks, and a filterable ingredient library tags every ingredient by benefit, so each claim is backed and easy to scan.
Benefit-led product pages, built for mobile
Every product page leads with the benefit, followed by scannable proof points and trust badges — natural ingredients, lab-tested, and a 30-day money-back guarantee — that answer objections up front. Our development team built the bundle logic, dynamic pricing, custom cart upsells and free-shipping threshold messaging, all optimized for a fast, seamless experience on every device. We also set up a wholesale application and B2B flow so the store could grow beyond direct-to-consumer.
The results
At launch, Intervel converted at 4.11%, and 43% of customers subscribed. The brand had predictable, recurring revenue from day one — a foundation to scale from rather than build toward.
